Rochester is right in line with the rest of the nation with regards to individuals having completed a high school education. Just under 29% of its residents are high school graduates. Over 24% go on to attend college at one of the many higher education options in and around Rochester. There are fifteen institutions within forty miles of Rochester including the University of Rochester, Monroe Community College and the Rochester Institute of Technology. Of Rochester’s residents ages 18 to 24, 44.4% of them are currently enrolled in college or graduate school.
The Rochester City School District offers a quality education to more than 34,000 students from preschool through grade 12 and 11,000 adults. The student body consists of children from 28 foreign countries speaking 35 different languages, a level of diversity that is hard to match anywhere else in the country. The district is focused on providing an excellent education, partnering with area businesses and communities to strengthen their programs and instilling in its students a respect for others, an appreciation for other cultures and an awareness of the value of diversity.
