Housing
Rochester offers a wide variety of housing options and there is an over-abundance for the individual seeking rental choices. In the year 2000, more than 50% of the total housing units were renter occupied. Only 36% on the total units were occupied by the owner. However, homeownership is on the rise and just a few of the Rochester options include brand new condos, Victorian ‘painted ladies’, Italiante villas, faithfully restored landmarks as well as brand new developments.
The city of Rochester is divided into four quadrants and each represents a slightly unique approach to housing. The northeast is home to well-established neighborhoods with an array of apartments, modest cottages, Queene Anne mansions, grand Tudors and new single-family homes designed to blend in with the existing homes. The southwest offers sophisticated new town homes, restored vintage dwellings, new and established single-family homes and traditional colonials. The southeast combines the strengths of the previous two, adding in estate-like Greek Revival mansions. The northwest has an option from every decade since the 1920s. Newer homes to beachfront elegance, older mansions to generous doubles, compact single-family dwellings to apartments, something is bound to fit the need.
